The best social commentary on how the medical model (the Emperor has no clothes model) treats women and birth. This clip is from the Monty Python movie "The Meaning of Life". These people are/were geniuses. Although this movie was made in 1983, it is still relevant over thirty years later.
This is indeed a classic. I was asked a to give a talk to women's studies students a few years ago about midwifery, and I ended up doing the whole talk based around this sketch. I showed the sketch and then deconstructed it and showed how the same practices are still prevalent, and the evidence of their harm. I've been invited back every year since then!
It's so incredibly sad that it's more than a quarter century old and as true as ever!
